The First Chakra is named the base. It is linked
to the body's physical well-being, including your vitality, passion, and sexual enjoyment. Located at the base
of the spine, it affects how we appreciate life, our sexual relationships, physical
activities and our survival instinct. It is associated with the earth, and this Chakra helps keep us grounded
(not being 'grounded' would physically produce a sense of light-headiness, and this would in turn lead to not having realistic goals).
It also influences our feeling of self-worth,
and our sense of belonging in the family and the world outside. When we are grounded, we have a strong desire for
life, while trusting and accepting others.
Blockages in this area would result in an inability to deal effectively with problems; friends and family would be expected
to find suitable solutions. There would be worries about how to provide for the family - financially and emotionally. Physical
symptoms would show up as, for example, stiffness in the body, digestive problems, irritable bowel syndrome, sexual and
reproductive problems. The person will stay clear of physical activity, become listless and disinterested.
Stress and fear of failure cause havoc with this chakra. A blockage might, for instance, be due to emotional problems
arising from childhood. This emotional 'disturbance' therefore produces physical effects. If you are well grounded, creativity can flourish,
ensuring a well-balanced personality. This Chakra's relationship to 'earth',
helps strengthen your basic lifeforce giving you the will to live and helping you to stand up for
yourself. Sex will be fulfilling and truly enjoyable, built upon a loving relationship with one's partner.
One of the crystals associated with this Chakra is Jasper (it keeps you grounded, helps heal our immune system and any
infection). Another is Garnet (helps blood flow and the healing of intimate relationships), and a third is Ruby (helps with
courage and love, grounding our emotions). Meditation and relaxation help unblock this chakra.
